December open mics post-mortem
My first year of doing stand-up comedy is now officially done! I think I did around 48 gigs this year which I’m very pleased with. I don’t think I could have done many more without going bankrupt or crazy. It has been really good fun meeting so many interesting people, but it has also been an absolute grind!
I have a change in strategy planned for next year which I’ll go over in a new post.
17th December – G&B (57th Gig)
Oof! This was a tough one. I wrote an entirely new 5 minutes which I did learn, but I kept putting off rehearsing properly and I paid the price. The bits I got through without screwing up did get laughs though, and I even had a couple of those really big laughs that I’m always jealous of seeing other comics get. So I’ll be a bit more confident next time.
21st December – G&B (N\A)
Yeah… no. I had spent several hours rehearsing my new material, so I knew it… mostly. I was still tripping over the odd line though. When I got there I just felt really jittery and nervous, and I didn’t want to have a repeat of the 17th in front of everyone again.
Also. The next day I realised that I was at the start of a stinking cold which left me shivering in bed for a week. So that probably didn’t help.
So I pulled out. Luckily the gig had too many people on that night, and I overheard Kyle asking someone to drop out. So I volunteered instead and just enjoyed the show with a beer. A much more chilled out end to my comedy year.
