October open mics post-mortem
Only two gigs in October, I’m definitely starting to wind down for the year. There’s a mixture of reasons why, such as needing to save money and just the mental/physical tiredness from gigging and travelling so much.
15th October – G&B Comedy (53rd Gig)
This was a bit of a bad gig for me, the smaller than usual audience was a bit flat (not my words). And watching the video back, my confidence suffered because of it. Fortunately I had asked Kyle if he would give me some notes on my performance. So it was good to have him review a gig that went wrong, rather than the crowd just being really into it and then me not learning much.
23rd October – G&B Comedy (54th Gig)
The notes from Kyle re: my last gig were really useful, I have a lot of bad habits that I knew about, but also a lot that I had no idea were so bad. He gave me some good pointers before the show and I tried to implement them during the gig.
This gig went A LOT better…. until I lost my place and then froze on stage for like 15 seconds. I was able to recover though and I think I finished strong. I’m looking forward taking those lessons and trying again at the Gong show on the 1st.
Writing
I’m going to try and write a new 5 mins in November. I’m getting a little tired of my tight five. It’s great to do at a new venue, but I feel like I’m wasting a great opportunity to experiment if I keep doing it at G&B now.
