August open mics post-mortem
I did 5 gigs in August which is a decent number, and it keeps me on track to do 50 this year. 3 were in Bristol and Bath too so less travelling, and I got to show my face on the local scene.
I also did my first improv. class in Reading which was really good fun. I’m hoping it will make me more comfortable on stage.
3rd August – G&B Comedy (44th Gig)
I thought I did just OK on the night but as I was leaving Kyle said it was the best he’d ever seen me! So yeah! 🙂 I tried a new bit about going to a Gay bar and not being let in. It got a mixed response but some good lines I can use elsewhere.
14th August – Poor Man’s Fringe (45th Gig)
My first ever gig in Bath. It was at the Cider house which is a lovely bar. The room was sold out, standing room only. I did around 7 mins and it went really well. I loved this gig, and I was more comfortable looking around at the audience and being in the moment.
17th August – G&B Comedy (46th Gig)
I wanted to try something new but I’d been changing my mind all week about what to do. I ended up deciding last minute to do the Milo eating Creatine story.
Because it was new I was all over the place, and it also distracted me on the Mario Kart story which I didn’t perform well. But I think there is definitely something there. I’m going to tidy it up, learn it properly and then try it again at my next gig.
24th August – Buffoon Comedy (47th Gig)
I grabbed another last minute gig, this time at Buffoon comedy.
I’m not sure how to rate this gig. There was a big audience of about 50 people who were definitely up for it. I did get a lot of laughs, and I could see people enjoying it, so I should be happy. But a couple of the jokes fell flat, it was just that missing connection.
I tried out my new Creatine bit again but I still haven’t finalised and rehearsed it, so it was a bit messy. Unfortunately I think my lack of confidence in knowing the new bit carried over into the rest of my set again.
There were some great acts on that night too, and sometimes it’s hard not to compare yourself to other people.
27th August – White Bear Comedy Fest (48th Gig)
A very quiet daytime gig. I did terribly, but then everyone seemed to struggle with the small crowd so it’s just one of those days. Greg Winfield was very funny.
